Could changes in American popular culture make America a better society?

There are many problems with America today, even though I believe we live in a great country, there are many things that could be different. One thing that should be different is our popular culture choices. Everyday more and more people are being changed by the way our culture has been driven, and I think that some of these changes may be for the worst.

Now I don’t think a communist point of view is the way to go but one of the huge economy changes is the invention of social networking websites. So what I am trying to say is moderation is the key, not taking these websites away. As a college student I continuously see people that live their life on facebook. I myself am even guilty of doing this. Back when I used to be on facebook every day I would even cancel plans with friends to just go home and sit at the computer all day. Facebook is even known to ruin relationships.( http://trueslant.com/marcflores/2009/08/04/is-texting-and-social-networking-ruining-our-relationships/). I don’t think that we could ever get rid of social networking sites, but if we could cut down on the use of them I don’t think that we would have a problem like we do today with social skills. Another change affecting social skills, that I would like to see change, is the amount of text messaging. Texting is ruining the way people even spell (http://www.youthradio.org/news/is-texing-ruining-english-language). Of course at first it was a big fun change but now I can’t even go to dinner without someone have to stop a conversation for a second to send a text.

So, continuing to the conclusions, I believe that one way to change this is consideration not only to other people, but also to you. People are ruining their social skills and I believe that if some changes are made, people will be able to be happier in life, including myself. Use social networking sites in moderation, text with caution, and remember, no one cares about your facebook status.
